The dead sea is one of the saltiest lakes of the world. It is mainly fed by the river Jordan and from other smaller sources. Being lacking in emissaries, the Dead Sea is a “terminal lake” that loses enormous quantities of water following the evaporation in the dry warm climate.
It results an elevated concentration of salt and minerals in an extraordinary composition, that is particularly rich of chlorides of magnesium, sodium, bromine, iron, selenium, zinc and others.
Its high salinity is also due to the phenomenons of erosion of the rocks and the grounds through the waters of the river and to the accumulation of the sediments.
